Former India batter Mohammad Kaif is impressed with Shreyas Iyer’s consistent performances across formats. Drawing comparison between his batting techniques to that of MS Dhoni, Kaif said that even though Dhoni was not gifted with solid technique, he managed to score runs and turned out to be a proven match-winner for India.

Kaif lauded Iyer for scoring consistently despite failing against the short ball on a few occasions. Iyer's issue against the short ball was first exposed during the IPL and he has been constantly troubled by the same, which eventually cost him a place in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup squads.

Shreyas Iyer is in good form and scoring in every match: Mohammad Kaif

“We always talk about Dhoni that he doesn’t look good but score runs and wins matches. Shreyas Iyer also has the same class, he knows how to make runs. There is a weakness, gets out while playing the pull shot but despite that, he has a good record in 2022,” Kaif said on Sony Sports while speaking about the first Test between India and Bangladesh.

“He is in good form and scoring in every match. It is a big thing to score in the first innings. India got the big lead because of his innings. He plays good drives and uses his feet as well, he is a complete batter. He has issues against the bouncer but every batter has some or other weakness. It will remain throughout his life, he will have to deal with it always, but what he has done is praiseworthy,” added Kaif.

Notably, Iyer has been the leading run-scorer for India in ODIs this year, while he has been good form in the red-ball series as well. The right-hander scored a valuable 86 in the just-concluded Chattogram Test and was involved in a 149-run stand with Cheteshwar Pujara that helped India post 404 runs in the first innings.
