Pakistan cricketers have been subject to needless trolling over their communication skills especially when they speak English. Former Pakistan spinner, Saeed Ajmal opined that the local players were judged more on the basis of language skills instead of their cricket.

Over the years, many Pakistani cricketers have been judged and made fun of due to their lack of fluency in speaking English. Ajmal made a few blunt statements in an interview as he stated that he did not get bothered much by the language, also claimed that he is the ‘world number one’ and that the world will come to him.

Jab main world number one bana, mujhe bade bando ne kaha ki tu English sikh le, maine kaha meri marzi bhai, main jo marzi karu (When I became world number one, some people asked me to learn English and I told them I will do what I want),” said Ajmal in Crickwick podcast.

If you know English, you are good?: Saeed Ajmal

Agar aapko meri mother language main interview karna hai to karo, aur mai shy nahi hoon aur na hi hona chahiye. Hume English nahi ati, par jo hum kar rahey hai, duniya dekh rahi hai, I am world number one. I am world number one, the world will come to me, I have no reason to go and ask for interviews. English language, I hate that word. If you know English, you are good and if you are not then you are bad, wah yaar” added the former cricketer.

Ajmal represented the Men in Green in 64 T20Is, 113 ODIs, and 35 Tests wherein he scalped 85, 184, and 178 wickets respectively across the formats. He was also ranked as the number one bowler in ODIs from November 2011 to December 2014.
