Jos Buttler's England have suffered another injury setback ahead of their titanic semi-final clash against India in Adelaide after speedster Mark Wood pulled up in training on Tuesday. The pacer did not take any further part in the session and will face a fitness test ahead of the crunch match according to reports.
The Three Lions are already sweating on the fitness of star batter Dawid Malan, who sustained a groin injury against Sri Lanka in their last outing of the Super 12 stage. But the latest setback to their premier fast bowler is a cause for a major headache for Jos Buttler. Mark Wood set the tournament on fire with his rapid deliveries, scalping nine wickets in the process.
Wood pulled up short during England's training session on Tuesday ahead of the clash against Rohit Sharma's India and was restricted to the dressing room after his reported injury. His participation in the semi-final is in doubt, with a fitness test required to asses his involvement in the match.
Dawid Malan participated in a light training session on Tuesday
Meanwhile, the former no.1 T20I batter in the world, Dawid Malan, also participated in a light training session in the presence of the England medics monitoring his groin injury. In case Malan fails to recover in time, Phil Salt feels like the most suitable replacement for the star batter in the England batting order.
Earlier, Malan's teammate Moeen Ali had revealed that it wasn't looking great for the top-order batter, who was unlikely to feature for the Three Lions against India.
“He has been one of our best players for a number of years. I don’t know but to be honest with you it is not looking great. He went for scans yesterday and when he arrived, we don’t really know much but it is not looking great,” Moeen Ali had told the BBC in an interview.
