After Australia’s surprise exit from the T20 World Cup 2022 in the Super 12 stages, David Warner has now indicated his plans for the next T20 World Cup. The left-hander, who is currently 36 years old did not have the best of World Cup recently and scored just 44 in four games at an average of 11.  With the ageing factor, Warner is likely to move on from the longer format within next year and focus on the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in India.

Warner has also set his eyes on T20 World Cup 2024 in the Carribean and USA, with Cricket Australia likely to give him the captaincy hat in the limited-overs format. Considering Australia’s packed schedule in the red-ball format next year, Warner’s decision doesn’t come as a big surprise after Matthew Hayden had already called for regeneration.

I love the white-ball game, it's amazing: David Warner

Warner mentioned that he will be retiring from Test cricket at first within a year's time and noted his love for the shorter formats. He was optimistic about getting to the 2024 T20 World Cup and asked the fans to look out for his performances in the near future if they had given up on him.

"Test cricket will probably be the first one to fall off. Because that's how it will pan out. The T20 World Cup is in 2024, (one-day) World Cup next year,” Warner said on Triple M's Deadset Legends.

"Potentially it could be my last 12 months in Test cricket. But I love the white-ball game; it's amazing.”T20 cricket - I love the game. I will be looking to get to 2024. For all those people saying I am past it and a lot of those old people are past it, look out. Be careful what you wish for," Warner added.

Meanwhile, England and New Zealand progressed into the semi finals from Australia's group and they played against India and Pakistan, respectively. It was England who won the tournament at the MCG by beating Pakistan in the finals and clinched their second T20 World Cup title.
