The star Australian spinner Adam Zampa is a doubt for the Sri Lanka clash after reportedly having Covid-19 symptoms. Australia suffered a big defeat in their opening T20 World Cup 2022 clash against New Zealand and have suffered another setback as they will the services of their key spinner at Perth Stadium on Tuesday (October 25).

Zampa, Australia's highest-ranked spinner, took the big wicket of Kane Williamson in the opening clash while conceding 39 runs. As per latest reports, the bowler has shown Covid-19 symptoms and the management is likely to take a late call on his availability for the game on Tuesday.

Notably, Irish all-rounder George Dockrell featured against Sri Lanka despite testing Covid positive. The new ICC World Cup rules allow Covid-positive players to participate in the game but it is up to the Australia team management to take a call. According to a report from News Corp, Zampa's symptoms are not severe. "It’s understood Zampa’s symptoms are not necessarily severe but there is concern about him taking the field in such a big game," the report said.

"Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa is in doubt for tonight’s T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Perth after coming down with Covid-19 symptoms, BenHorne8 reports," sports reporter Nic Savage tweeted.

The tournament hosts have a genuine backup option in form of Ashton Agar, who played against India in the warm-up game. Agar has excellent numbers in T20I cricket, with 47 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.48 but Zampa's absence can prove a crucial for Australia, as they are in desperate need of a big win against Sri Lanka. The latter won their Super 12 round opening clash against Ireland by nine wickets.
