Former India head coach Ravi Shastri expressed contentment on ex-teammate and World Cup winning member Roger Binny’s likely takeover as the new Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President.

Sourav Ganguly in all likeliness is set to be replaced by legendary pacer and current Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) president Roger Binny for the official position on the board on October 18. His appointment is only a matter of time as he is said to be the only one to have filed the nomination for the post and will be elected unopposed at the AGM on the upcoming Tuesday.

Shastri, who also is a close friend and colleague of the former pacer is delighted by the news of his former teammate taking over the leading position in the board.

Ravi Shastri considers Roger Binny as the rightful successor

The former India head coach turned commentator believes the Binny has everything that it takes to make major decisions as the leading member of the board.

“Roger’s name has come up and I am delighted. He was my colleague in the World Cup. There is continuity here because he was the president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association and now, he moves on to become the president of the BCCI. I am extremely happy because it’s a World Cup winner who is the president for the first time in the history of the BCCI,” said Shastri during an interaction at the Mumbai Press Club.

Having known Binny for over four decades, the former World Cup winner considers the new president ticks all the boxes to takeover the post. “His credentials are unquestionable, you look at his integrity, his character and like I mentioned, he is a World Cup winner. He’s got all the boxes ticked to become the president of the BCCI,” Shastri further added.

The 67-year-old will most likely succeed Ganguly in the coming days and a lot will be expected from him in terms of shaping Indian cricket further.
