It is very hard to predict who will be in the top four of T20 World Cup 2022: Habibul Bashar

The T20 World Cup 2022 is currently witnessing a lot of ups and downs, as the Australian weather conditions are not at all favoring the top-ranked teams, who had been tournament favorites this time. Hosts Australia and last year’s semi-finalists England are on the verge of elimination as both have lost a game each.

The upcoming contest between the two teams will virtually knock out the losing side from the tournament. South Africa put up a great fight against Zimbabwe and dominated the show in the first and second innings, but their game was abandoned after rain played a spoilsport just when the Proteas inched closer to a win.

While speaking on BatBricks7 Presents Run Ki Runneeti show on CricTracker, former Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar opined that the tournament is at such a stage, where all the predictions have failed and no one can predict which teams will make it to the top four as he said:

“This tournament is not good for people, or for parties because we all made predictions and we are all wrong now. But upsets are good for cricket, it’s good for the tournament. At a tournament like a World Cup, usually people pick their teams, who will go to the semi-finals. But in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022, after the last game, you can not actually pick your teams.”

This tournament is wide open now: Bashar

New Zealand won their first game against Australia to bag the first two points, but their second game against Afghanistan was called off without a ball being bowled, courtesy of the Australian rains. The rains led to another big upset in the tournament, as Ireland defeated England by five runs by virtue of the DLS method.

“Anyone can contest in the semi-finals. And we can see that the teams that are ranked lower are actually putting on a good show and adding pressure on the top-ranked teams. This tournament is wide open now and usually after a few matches one can predict the semi-finalists, but right now it is very hard to predict who will be in the top four,” he added.
