India’s start to the three-match ODI series did not go the way they had expected, as the Proteas clinched a close win and took a 1-0 lead. India, headed by Shikhar Dhawan, will be eyeing a comeback against South Africa as the action now moves from Lucknow to Ranchi. India had a good lineup, but one name that went missing was Deepak Chahar.

The BCCI, ahead of the second ODI, confirmed that the pacer had been ruled out of the ODI series owing to an injury, and Washington Sundar has been named as his replacement. The same back problem that kept Chahar out for at least six months this year is keeping him out again as he complained of a stiff back before the first ODI.

The Men in Blue performed well in the opening match, despite the 9-run defeat. Sanju Samson and Shreyas Iyer highlighted many qualities. Samson scored an outstanding unbeaten 86 runs after Iyer’s blitz came to an end. The knocks by the duo helped India inch closer to a win in the final over but they, unfortunately, lost the contest.

In the second ODI, India would like to level the series against the Proteas, but only if the weather allows. While the Men in Blue strive to do better in the upcoming clash, they would be hoping for a full game, unlike the previous ODI which was reduced to 40 overs. Their hopes might hinder as there is a prediction of rain at Ranchi.

Here’s a look at how the weather will behave during the IND vs SA clash:

The second game of the three ODIs will be played at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi. Extremely humid conditions are anticipated at the stadium throughout the game, with a predicted range of 61% to 91%. At the start of the game, the temperature is anticipated to be approximately 29 degrees, and it is projected to drop to 23 degrees Celsius by the end. As per a report by weather.com, Ranchi can expect rain after 6 PM IST, which will affect the second ODI.

Bowlers, especially pacers, typically benefit from Ranchi Stadium's surface because it is tough for them to gain traction. The surface will get a little bit slower as the game progresses, which may aid spinners. The captain that wins the toss might decide to bat first and put up a significant total to put the opposition under pressure.
