Legendary wicketkeeper-batter Farokh Engineer has said that India had greater luck during their ICC T20 World Cup 2022 clash against arch-rivals Pakistan at the iconic MCG on Sunday, October 23. The blockbuster encounter saw the Men in Blue come out on top against the Babar Azam-led side by four wickets in a final-over thriller in front of a 90,000+ packed crowd.
Chasing 160, India were tottering at 31/4 in the seventh over before Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya resurrected the innings with a 113-run stand for the fifth wicket. Kohli remained unbeaten, scoring a blistering 82 runs off 53 balls at an outstanding strike rate of 154.7.
One can't deny that the lady luck smiled on India: Farokh Engineer
"Well I don't think any human being would be able to get over that (Virat Kohli's match-winning innings against Pakistan). Neither an Indian nor a Pakistan supporter. What a match that was! I mean in that one over, we saw everything. We saw a run out, we saw a stumping. Stumping was like a run out. We saw a wide ball, we saw a no ball. It was an incredible match", said Engineer while speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' on CricTracker.
"Who can ever forget that match? I think perhaps it would be even more exciting than the last over of the England-New Zealand final (2019 World Cup) at Lord's. Perhaps it was more exciting than that because there's all the ifs and buts. So, how can you ever forget that?", he added.
"One can't deny that lady luck smiled on India because whatever decisions the umpires made was in the best of their knowledge, but certainly India had the greater luck in winning that game. Don't take anything away from Virat. He played superbly", said the veteran stumper.
Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law said: "Don't forget it. The 94,000 fans (90,293) as well they were cheering them on and if that does not inspire you to do great things, nothing will."
