Former Bangladesh skipper Habibul Bashar has said that Bangladesh are not well prepared for the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2022. However, he also reckons that the Shakib Al Hasan-led side can take confidence from having played the T20I tri-series in New Zealand recently.

Bangladesh are currently locking horns with the Netherlands in their Super 12 encounter at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Bangladesh have somehow managed to put 144 runs on the scoreboard for the loss of eight wickets.

"Bangladesh are definitely not fully prepared. Bangladesh could not prepare as they would have wanted to, but probably what Shakib said that 'you are fortunate to play a tri-series against New Zealand' which is similar to the conditions in Australia, not totally but similar. A bit of preparation might have been done in New Zealand, but ideally Bangladesh could not get a chance to practise in Australia," said Habibul Bashar while speaking on 'BatBricks7 presents Run Ki Runneeti' show on CricTracker.

"I can understand what Shakib really said. Whatever preparation we have done have been done in New Zealand and there is no point in thinking about what we could not do in Australia. We are not focusing too much on that and focusing on what we have done in the past. So, it would have been better had they got more practice time but you cannot help it," he added.

Bangladesh tasted a bitter defeat against Asian rivals Afghanistan in a warm-up fixture in Brisbane last week where they went down by a whopping 62 runs after being restricted to 98/9 chasing 161. Their next warm-up game against an in-form South Africa was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

The Bangladesh Tigers have to do a lot of work as they are placed in Group 2 comprising the likes of India, Pakistan and the Proteas. Thus, they have to work really hard if they want to progress in the tournament. They showcased disappointing performances in the New Zealand T20I tri-series and couldn't win a single game.
