Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly withdrew from the upcoming Legends League on Saturday, September 3, claiming personal reasons. As a result, his return to Eden Gardens, Kolkata, has also been postponed.

Fans in Kolkata had waited ten years to see their hometown star Ganguly return to the pitch, but sources say that is no longer the case. Indian Maharajas, supposed to be led by Ganguly, were slated to play the World XI, captained by Eoin Morgan, in the Legends League one-off game but as per recent developments, Ganguly is not expected to participate.

Additionally, fans were eager to see the reunion of former cricket players. Ganguly was highly enthusiastic about the game because Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh have played under his captaincy during their playing days. However, this time the people of the city must feel a little hopeless since even if the other former players participate, Ganguly might not be seen taking part in the game.

To commemorate Azadi Ki Amrit Maha Utsav, India's 75 years of Independence, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly was set to participate in a match at Eden Gardens. The game is scheduled to take place on September 16, 2022, in Kolkata, a day before the second season of Legends League kick starts.

Sourav Ganguly has reportedly pulled out of the match due to personal concerns, according to a report by India Today. Sanjay Das, a friend from Sourav Ganguly's youth, plays a significant part in the project. It is anticipated that Ganguly's departure from the game will lessen the intense excitement that was created. Many spectators would have come to the field to witness Sourav's bold captaincy and fiery batting once more, but, unfortunately, it may not happen this time around.

Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Irfan Pathan and Harbhajan Singh named captains

The Legends League Cricket will be a four team tournament, which will be held across six venues in India. Gujarat Giants, India Capitals, Bhilwara Kings, and Manipal Tigers are the four teams this season. The Gujarat Giants will be led by Sehwag, India Capitals will be led by Gautam Gambhir, and while the Bhilwara Kings will be led by all-rounder Irfan Pathan, the Manipal Tigers will be under Harbhajan Singh’s captaincy.
