India registered an impressive six wicket win in the third T20I against Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium to clinch the series 2-1. This would be a much-needed morale-booster for the Men in Blue as they head into the next month's T20 World Cup 2022 down under.
Despite the series win, there is still a lot of work to be done by the Indian team as far as their death bowling is concerned and the think tank needs to do some serious thinking on who can be take up the job of bowling the final overs.
For India, Axar Patel was the pick of the bowlers with 3/33 while Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel chipped in with a wicket each.
Surya's enterprising knock takes India home
Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won a crucial toss and decided to bowl first. The visitors suffered a dramatic top-order collapse losing skipper Aaron Finch, Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell cheaply and Cameron Green, who is not a part of Australia's T20 World Cup squad left the Indian bowlers shell-shocked with his amazing counter-attacking knock. Green scored a blistering 21-ball 52.
Australia's most consistent performer of this series Matthew Wade departed cheaply, but an outstanding 68-run seventh wicket stand between Tim David and Daniel Sams helped the Aussies post a stiff total of 186/7. Tim was the game-changer scoring an unbeaten 54 runs from 27 deliveries.
In reply, the hosts lost openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul early before batting megastar Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav stitched a crucial 104-run stand for the third wicket. Yadav departed after scoring a blistering 69 runs from 36 deliveries.
Meanwhile, a focused Kohli continued to keep the scoreboard ticking and he along with Hardik Pandya brought India closer to the target. The former skipper was dismissed in the final over after hitting a six for an excellent 63 runs off 48 balls.
At one point, it seemed as if Daniel Sams would emerge as an unlikely hero for Australia. However, that was not to be as Hardik Pandya smartly scored a four off his fifth delivery in the final over.
