BCCI president and former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly has heaped praises on Virat Kohli and even stated that the latter is much more skilful than him. The 33-year-old recently broke his almost three-year-long drought of scoring an international century in the Asia Cup 2022 fixture against Afghanistan. His unbeaten 122 off 61 balls was his maiden hundred in the T20I format and certainly he couldn’t have returned in a better way to form.
Kohli has so far played 102 Tests, 262 ODIs and 104 T20Is for India and recently became the third Indian batter after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid to reach the landmark of 24,000 international runs. He continues to break records and the Indian fans will be hoping that Kohli can carry the form from the Asia Cup into the T20 World Cup next month.
We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket: Sourav Ganguly
Ganguly mentioned that Kohli is more skilful than him and felt that would only be a valid comparison. He noted about himself and Kohli playing a lot of international games in different generations and predicted Kohli to go past his tally comfortably by the time he ends his career.
“The comparison should be in terms of skill as a player. I think he is more skilful than I’m. We played in different generations, and we played a lot of cricket. I played in my generation, and he will continue playing, probably playing more games than I did. Currently, I have played more than what he has but he’ll get past that. He is tremendous,” Ganguly said on YouTube channel TRS Clips.
Ganguly played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India from the period of 1992 to 2008 and he was also one of the greatest captains India had during his prime. He has taken Indian cricket forward quite considerably after taking up the BCCI president's role.
