New Zealand is one such team that has been very successful in whatever they have done in the recent past. Yes, they did miss out on the World Cups in 2015 and 2019 after losing to Australia and England, respectively, but the brand of cricket they played was appealing to a lot of fans around the world. After beating West Indies in the second T20I of the series, skipper Kane Williamson spoke that it’s the clarity in the dressing room that is doing the trick.

A lot of cricketers in the modern era believe to have clear roles in the team. For example, the team management of India have given absolute freedom to Dinesh Karthik in T20Is. When it comes to IPL, the players are aware of the kind of roles they’ll have to play in order to seal their spots. New Zealand cricket is no different. In order to achieve success, clarity in the dressing room is considered to be one of the most important things.

“We know that T20 cricket can be very fickle in its nature. We are just trying to improve and bring guys into the side and give them clear roles. It’s not trying too hard just to try and make contributions to your team and the style of cricket that we are trying to play,” Williamson said after defeating West Indies in the 2nd T20I.

The skipper added, “Just trying to keep things nice and simple. The personnel keeps changing, so for a side like us, we are sort of just working towards it, but it is nice to see a couple of good performances. We got another one in a couple of days’ time and a few more after that as well. It is just about taking the small steps forward.”

New Zealand registered a mammoth win over West Indies in the second T20I

After losing the T20I series against India, West Indies have once again lost another T20I series. The Caribbean side lost the first match by 13 runs while the second by 90 runs. Glenn Phillips was the showstopper of the night as the Kiwi scored 76 off 41 balls, while Daryl Mitchell scored 48 off just 20 balls. With their brilliant batting, the team registered 215 on board after 20 overs. Obed McCoy picked up three wickets but couldn’t inspire his teammates to replicate such a performance.

Batting second, West Indies kept losing wickets and lost nine wickets for 125 runs in their 20 overs. Obed McCoy was the leading run-scorer for West Indies with 23 runs. Mitchell Santner and Michael Bracewell picked three each to break the backbone of the West Indies.

With that, the Kiwis won the T20I series with one game left to play. The third and final match of the series is scheduled to happen on 15th August (Monday) in Jamaica.
