Cricket fans have their eyes on the clock as India and Pakistan gear up to cross swords in their respective Asia Cup 2022 opening clashes on August 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Meanwhile, the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar has directed its students to not watch the high-voltage match in groups or post anything related to it on social media.

In a notice issued by the dean of students’ welfare, the institute has asked the students to stay in their allotted rooms during the course of the game. The students have also been directed to not create any indiscipline in the college or hostel premises. Notably, students found guilty of disobeying the rules will be fined a sum of INR 5,000.

Rs 5,000 fine on students breaching the norms

“Students are aware that a cricket series involving various nations is going on in the Dubai International Stadium. Students are hereby directed to take sports as a game and not create any kind of indiscipline in the institute/hostel,” the notice read. The students are also not allowed to enter other students’ rooms to watch the game.

“If there is a group of students watching the match in a particular room, then the students to whom that particular room is allotted will be debarred from the institute hostel accommodation, and a fine of at least Rs 5,000 will be imposed on all the students involved,” NIT stated further.

It must be noted that, back in 2016, clashes broke out at the institute following India’s defeat against the West Indies in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup. This even led to the closure of the institution for several days. Hence, the administration has released the directives to avoid any such kayos again.

Coming to the contest, the two sides have been brilliant in their recent T20I assignments and would like to do well in the high-voltage clash. The Men in Blue will be seeking redemption in the contest, having suffered a crushing 10-wicket defeat in their last outing against Pakistan in last year’s T20 World Cup.
