The veteran cricket administrator and the former secretary of the BCCI, Anirudh Chaudhary passed away in the early hours of Tuesday (16th of August). Chaudhary played a huge part in developing the Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA) and was instrumental in making Ranchi, the capital of all cricketing activities.
JSCA confirmed the news of Amitabh Chaudhary’s demise and ever since that, the fans have poured their respect and admiration for the veteran. A lot of people have already paid their tributes as his longtime colleague Anirudh Chaudhary recalls his contribution to the game.
“Amitabh’s contribution to the game of cricket in Jharkhand was immense. He will be missed by JSCA and it will be difficult to fill the void left by him in Jharkhand. I offer my condolences to his family, friends, and well-wishers”, the former BCCI treasurer told Indian Express.
Hemant Soren, the chief minister of Jharkhand, expressed his sympathies to Chaudhary’s family on Twitter and wrote: “Received the sad news of the sudden demise of former President of JPSC Shri Amitabh Chaudhary Ji. Amitabh Ji, a former IPS officer, was also instrumental in promoting the game of cricket in the state. May God give peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family to bear the hour of grief.”
— Hemant Soren (@HemantSorenJMM) August 16, 2022
Contribution of Amitabh Chaudhary to Indian cricket
The 58-year-old did not have a very comfortable job during his time with the BCCI. Chaudhary was the team manager in India’s Tour to Zimbabwe in the 2005-06 season when Sourav Ganguly and Greg Chappel’s saga began in Indian cricket.
Later when he was working under the CoA in the BCCI, he encountered another coach versus captain saga. He was a part of the Virat Kohli versus Anil Kumble segment in Indian cricket. Thus, one can never say that Amitabh Chaudhary had it easy in the BCCI as it was tough to deal with two of the biggest administrative challenges of the Indian board in the recent past.
The former IPS officer also played a massive role in building a world-class stadium at Ranchi. After the completion of the stadium, JSCA decided to mark one end of the stadium after his name for all his contributions to develop the game in the state.
